Week Five

9/18/17-9/22/17

After all my exams and papers that were due last week, I was so grateful to have a normal week of lectures. I was also able to work more events this week than last week. I worked Dish with the Dean on Tuesday at the Applied Administration table. I was able to give more information about the bachelor’s degree program offered through UC Blue Ash as well as answer any questions about the college. I felt that I was able to make an impact at this event by answering these questions many students have. This event also impacted me because I was able to hear many questions and concerns students have and listen to Dean Lightner’s position on these issues. It was great to hear how much our college can still improve and how much greater it can be!

I also did a lot of work with Sarah this week to get ready for our classroom visits next week to discuss what services Career Services offers to students. I created a PowerPoint for these visits and Sarah gave me tips on how to make it even better. These visits start next week and I’m so excited to share this information with students. Next week is also the second session of SLPDI and we are facilitating the True Colors activity. I’m very happy to have some of my fellow ambassadors join me for this activity and I’m also excited to see what kind of colors these developing leaders have.

We are picking up the pace in a lot of my classes after the first exams and I’m learning a lot of material! My favorite thing I learned about the week is about James Baldwin’s essay “Notes of a Native Son”.  This essay is about a strained father-son relationship and the regrets Baldwin has after the death of his father. This essay also has themes of racism and how to peacefully combat it throughout the piece. It was a very interesting essay and I enjoyed reading it!
