Week Two
8/28/17-9/1/17
As the second week of classes comes to an end, I am starting to get into a routine as far as classes and I am starting to become more confident in my ambassador role. As I continue to work with Sarah, I am continuing to understand what my leadership role as Career Peer manager will be as far as responsibilities. This week, I created an email announcement and jotform for students who are interested in participating in the Student Leadership Professional and Development Institute (SLPDI). I am super excited to work these sessions because they sound a lot like SOL training, which was one of the most memorable experiences I ever had in my time as a student leader. Sarah and I set up another meeting for next week, where we will discuss the Career Peer presentation that we will be facilitating in classrooms.
Other than Career Peer stuff, I worked some really fun events this week! The first event I participated in was the Fall Resource Fair, where I worked the Student Life and Engagement table with fellow ambassador, Makaila. I felt like I was able to make an impact at this event because I was able to tell so many students about the benefits of becoming involved on campus. Many students I had met at either orientation or convocation, and they were very interested to learn how I started to get involved as a SOL and then an ambassador. This event also allowed me to promote SLPDI and explain how this is a great opportunity for all students even if they don’t necessarily want to be involved and just want to build their resume.
Another event I worked this week was the CYC Mentor/Mentee event. This event was so great to be a part of and impacted me because I got to see students make connections on this campus first-hand. I remember being new here and wishing I had someone to help guide me through my first time at college. These students get to have that experience and connection, and it makes me feel so happy for them!
Lastly, my classes this week are starting to pick up momentum after the BlackBoard melt-down last week. Financial Accounting is my favorite class so far, mostly because it’s such logical thinking and it’s so organized. I know that this class will get harder as the semester goes on, but for right now I’m just happy that I know what’s going on. This week we learned about debits and credits and which one increases and decreases each account. Might sound boring, but it made sense so I liked it.
I’m very happy with how this semester is playing out. I am making new connections around campus and learning a lot in all of my classes. I’m excited to see what next week has in store, but mostly just grateful for that three-day weekend.
