Week Six
9/25/17-9/29/17
As week six comes to an end, I am amazed at how fast this semester is going! While I’m always so busy, I love working around the college and being able to see my ambassadors so often! This week I worked a few events and was able to do some work with Career Services. This Friday, I was able to do a prospective student tour with a group of high school students. This event made an impact on me because I was able to calm their nerves about college while answering any questions, comments, and concerns they had about college. It was also nice to brush up on my tour skills since I hadn’t done one since August! Another event I worked this week was the Lunch &Learn Anxiety event. This event was very small, but it was great to see students who wanted to learn more about this topic and see how they could help themselves as well as their friends. It was in this way that this event made an impact on me.
I was also able to do a lot of work with Sarah this week in my leadership role. Starting on Thursday, we had our second session of SLPDI and facilitated True Colors. It was great to see other students do this and learn more about their leadership and personality skills. It was also so much fun to do this activity with Charlotte and LiAnn. For the third session of SLPDI is the resume review session that many students are looking forward to. Sarah and I have set up a meeting/training session for me next week so that I can learn how to review resumes so that I can help during this session. Also on Thursday, Sarah and I went to our first classroom visit together to talk about Career Services using the PowerPoint I made. I was a little nervous at first, but I felt more confident as the presentation went on and by our second visit on Friday I wasn’t nervous at all!
This week in classes, I learned how to draft a contract in Business Law and learned the types of contracts that need to be in writing. Just remember “MY LEGS”—Marriage, Year, Land, Executor, Guaranty, Sale of Goods > $500. I find Business Law to be very interesting and Professor Redmon always keeps it entertaining!
