Week Three
9/4/17-9/8/17
Like many other students, I was extremely grateful for the long weekend.I was able to catch up on homework, friends, and sleep. When my classes started again on Wednesday, I felt like a new person! This week was pretty low as far as ambassador duties are concerned, butI spent the whole day on campus Thursday fulfilling my ambassador duties.

I started of my day helping to set up for the Fall Involvement Fair. This event was by far my favorite one this year. There was pizza, cotton candy, music, and so many people (faculty, staff, and students) having fun! This event impacted me because I got to talk to so many students who had started their own clubs and were extremely passionate about them. One student, Rachel, started her own club about political activism and was so excited to share with me about what her club advocates for and how they discuss current issues and events. I was inspired by her passion to keep other students updated on these issues. While this event definitely had an impact on me, I felt like I was able to make an impact on the school and students as well. I was again able to talk to students about SLPDI and ways they can get involved here on campus. I talked to some students who were in my convocation group and they were very interested in my journey through student leadership. It makes me so happy and excited to see so many students interested in what we do as ambassadors and see them get motivated to get involved in school. These experiences made the Fall Involvement Fair a very memorable event.
After the fair, I again met with Sarah to discuss Career Peer duties. I reviewed an old Career Peer classroom presentation and made suggestions on how we could make it better. Sarah and I both decided that making a new presentation would be the best decision in order to show off exactly what the Career Peer program is and what it offers to students. We also discussed SLPDI and what the curriculum will be for the first two sessions. The first session, starting next Thursday, will be about what students characterize as a leader. The second session will be True Colors—one of my favorite activities. I’m going to enlist the help of my colorful leadership team for this second session in order to get some color variety going on—Sarah and I are both gold— to help the students understand what their color truly means. I’m honestly so excited for these sessions to begin so that I can watch students come into their own as leaders.
As far as my classes go, there isn’t much to report. I have a lot of exams and papers due next week so I’m going to be super busy! This week in economics though I did learn that due to a small crop and bad weather, there is an avocado shortage. This means that prices could go up as much as 75%! Holy guacamole, that’s a lot (ba dum tiss). I like that my professor shows us articles and gives examples to apply what we are learning in class to real-world problems. This class isn’t my favorite, but it’s pretty interesting.
